The yarn was wound Saturday as the store was closing. When I came in for work on Wednesday the completed baby sweater was waiting at the front desk.

You see, Liz was having issues with project monogomy and needed something fast and thrilling to hold her attention. The cure was Elizabeth Zimmerman's February Sweater from The Knitter's Almanac in Koigu Kersti, done in three days.

Of course we adore Elizabeth Zimmerman's patterns, that's why we are offering a class on making this very special baby sweater. Look for future classes that revolve around her wonderful designs.

A Day of Romance and Rock at The Knitter's Studio!

Last Sunday we were joined by published authors Joan McGowan and Share Ross for a wonderful afternoon of learning, cupcakes, and toe-up socks! Many customers stopped by to participate in the fun and we were so happy to have everyone there.

Share Ross, author of Punk Knits, gave a demonstration on how to deal with those holes that crop up when you are knitting.

We had a blast with Share. We have copies of her book and her wonderful skull needles in stock.

Joan McGowan-Michel brought samples of garments from her new book, Knitting Lingerie Style. Most of us added at least one more item in our already "to-be-knit" list. Isn't that Bed Jacket gorgeous?

We're working on the samples for the store so keep an eye out for a bra, panty and teddy set! We also have copies of her book on display and for sale so come on by.

The day was capped off with a hands on lesson from Joan on knitting the toe up socks. When last seen one customer had four pairs of socks completed.

I know, I know, we have not posted in almost forever here at The Knitter’s Studio blog. There has been so much going on here. First of all, I personally want to thank all of my wonderful customers, friends, family and amazing staff who have been soooooooooo supportive over the last many months. I have had quite a bit on my plate as of late, some wonderful and some just tedious and trying-that’s life. However, it has been an amazing experience going through so many things and seeing that the idea of sending positive energy out into the universe does truly come back to you! Everything we go through has a reason and always makes sense.

All along we have been working diligently (especially Sara and Mindi) to bring you our online retail website, knitculture . We are so excited as everything we have at The Knitter’s Studio store will now be available for purchase online, including all yarns, knitting needles, notions, books and accessories.

Happy knitting New Year!!! Here is a glimpse of what is to come from the creative team at The Knitter's Studio. As a young girl I had always dreamed of being a bride and making my own dress. I made the dress but the bride part didn't work out so well. But not to be undone by anything, I have designed, with the technical and laborious hands of the gang here at TKS my dream dress-all hand knitted. Part of the reason we haven't blogged in a while, but not completely (another several stories) is that we have been furiously lacing and beading away. This is silk and glass beads girls! We will have this truly beautiful piece in our window and up on the site very soon so stay tuned! We are also on our way to TNNA to buy more incredible yarn and whatever else strikes our creative, obsessive fancy!

This lovely piece is an example of true cathartic knitting, or crochet in this example. This is the crochet stole from Rowan's Vintage Knit's book. There are some pieces that should only be reserved for healing a broken heart. This shawl is done on a size A crochet hook with Rowan's Kid Silk Haze and involved 6 grueling weeks of work. The tears shed as I thought of my ex-boyfriend helped to block the piece and by the time I was done I didn't even remember his name. That is true physical healing! Not recommended for those who take out their pain on others or inanimate objects...just for self punishers.

A couple weeks ago I took my kids to Mexico. Silly me, I thought I would have time to knit while traveling. I even brought some gorgeous Classic Elite Lavish cashmere which I was only allowed to caress before passing out each evening. I do manage to knit at stop lights in L.A., but there were just none to be found down there. We did drop into this adorable dulceria (candy store) though and picked up some great Mexican candy. No real chocolate to be had so by the time we arrived back in LA I was knit AND chocolate deprived. My kids were very worried about me and uncovered the emergency stash (chocolate) immediately upon our return home. It's funny my knit bag(s) took up more room than our actual luggage. But my WORST fear was the possiblity of being stuck on an isolated desert highway with NO KNITTING!!! (PS: Only two of them are mine. Hector in the middle there sold us some amazing candied almonds!)

Yarn is like candy to me. Actually, it's really like chocolate. I can't live without it...Really, truly. Sometimes just the thought of a chocolate, or worse, a yarn diet is just too much for me. A perfect example is when I look at the beautiful yarn made by Alchemy Yarns I feel woozy and almost get a head rush like when I bite into an amazing piece of say, Teuscher chocolate (thanks to my friend Ani for introducing me to that devil's treat). This leads me to my next post....

We must pay homage to Mary Hughes-Thompson. We are so lucky to have her here at The Knitter's Studio. When she is not off fighting for human rights in Iraq and other areas of the Middle East she teaches and supports our store in so many ways. She loves Koigu Well, that is an understatement....she is obsessed. Here is her Koigu Toreador Jacket and incredibly she has done the Oriental Jacket too. She knits everything she does a few times so I wouldn't be surprised if she has done several Toreadors and at least 2 OJ's!!! We have the honor of housing her Oriental Jacket here at the store...come see it as it is a work of art!!!

Athough I myself will not spin (I just want to knit...give me that yarn ball or skien and let me at it) Mindi, along with counting coins LOVES to spin. Her eyes light up when she speaks of fleece and spindles. Get ready, as we will be teaching spinning at The Knitter's Studio soon!

Check out Will...he is wearing a hat that Mary made for fun with Skacel Sock Yarn (cast on 120). Next to him is his alpaca made with Brown Sheep Bulky with a pattern from Fiber Trends. Just so you know and are not scared when you make Mr. Alpaca he starts out before washing almost 5 times his finished length. BE WARNED: he will look like furry road kill before felting. (wash him a few times in a top loader). PS: Oh, behind Will are a selection of beautiful bags from Offhand Design.

Hi Everyone! I just wanted to let you all know that Delilah Rose Campos is finally here! She was born this Wednesday, May 24th at 5:43 a.m. and she weighed 6 pounds, 6 ozs...She is so sweet and gorgeous, and Nick and I are so in love with her! We just got home from the hospital today, so we promise we will follow up with photos in the next few days. This is one of our favorite customers incredible crazy entrelac child throw. Lynne worked day and night and day to make this beautiful piece...she is now blind and can't knit anymore but we love her anyways. (Just kidding. Lynne has incredible eyesight...no bi-focals for her!)
